USB Safely Remove 4.4 final, spin down drive!

USB Safely Remove 4.4 final is available now. We have improved user interface, made its icon look nicer, restored Win2000 compatibility and fixed some other bugs. Besides we added one important and frequently requested feature: the ability to power off USB drives after their stopping in Vista and Windows 7. Download the version 4.4 right now or read further about new features below.

Redesigned Icon

A little but nice improvement: we reworked our good old (but a bit outdated) icon that we had been using for several years, made it modern and more noticeable in the system tray. Hope you like it.

ClearType And System Font Support

Now all USB Safely Remove's dialogs, including device menu, are displayed with a currently selected theme font with ClearType support if you enabled it. E.g. the device menu can look like this:

Spinning down drivers after stopping in Vista & Win 7

When you safely remove the device in Windows XP it powers the device off – in the case of a flash drive its led was switched off and in the case of a portable hard drive it was spun down. But Microsoft changed this behavior in Vista and it still exists in Win 7: after you stop the device on these OSes the hard drive continue spinning and flash drive continue lighting. All modern hard drives park theirs heads automatically when you unplug them so in theory this behavior shouldn’t lead to loss data or damaged drives. But in practice the hard drive usually sound strangely when you unplug them on run and this makes a hard drive owner being a bit nervous when he hears that :)
USB Safely Remove can change this behavior and make the system power down USB ports. In order to enable this feature just answer "Yes, please" when USB Safely Remove suggests you to enable it:
Or go to the program settings and enable "Power off the device..." feature:
Don't forget to restart the computer in order to activate this option

Bug fixes and other improvements

  • Fixed: Native Windows Safely Remove Hardware icon could appear in the tray
  • Fixed: Card reader menu were displayed partially outside the screen if the taskbar is on the left of the screen
  • Fixed: Compatibilty with Windows 2000 restored
  • Option to not show the "Stop All" warning again added
  • Bosnian translation added
  • Some other UI improvements and non-significant bug-fixes
Note! The license policy for USB Safely Remove has changed since this version. The license will include one or two years of upgrade subscription. However user can still use the program for lifetime and use one license for every computer you own. Of course this change doesn't affect those who already purchased the license with lifetime upgrades. For a limited time licenses with lifetime upgrades are still available to sell. Hello. I downloaded USB

Hello. I downloaded USB Safely Remove why should turn off the USB port. But it does not work! The light of my external hard drive continues to be on. If the shutdowns do not work then there is no difference between the program implemented in the OS and Safely remove. I think the majority of users looking for a program that switches off the usb. How can I fix this? If you can run it I buy it. Thank you.
