Eject memory card

Post by DonCorleone »

I cannot eject memory cards from my Sitecom MD-020 reader. There is an option in the porperties page of the device where you can tell the program whether it is a Card Reader or not but is is not active (grayed out).

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and USB Safely Remove's version is 4.4.2.1087.

Hi DonCorleone, thanks for your message! The option is grayed out because the card reader device tells that it doesn't have any ejectable media. In this case we unfortunately cannot do anything.

Hi Igor,

The problem may be related to this specific reader. I just plugged another one and it works as expected.

It seems that the hardware must tell the program that it is a card reader. If this is true, why adding an extra option for the same purpose in the program?

Actually the device doesn't tell the program that it's certainly a card reader. It just may inform us that it has removable media. But not only card readers have removable media: CD-ROM drives, usual flash drives and etc also have removable media. In 99% we detect a card reader from other devices that also have removable media. But sometimes even our detection may be wrong. For these reasons we have this option that allows user preventively set how should program treat a device: a card reader or not. In your case the device doesn't report that it has removable media therefore we may not eject from it anything even if we send the device a specific command.
