What features you want to see in the next version?

Post by Igor »

We have a lot of suggestions from our users, as well as our own ideas regarding future program development. Therefore we need to choose the most wanted features which we will implement in the next version.

Please vote for one of the described below features. If you are absolutely required another feature you can describe it here, probably another people vote for it.

See below features brief description:
Stopped devices reactivation
Ability to make return to work "stopped" (but not disconnected) device

Drive Letter Management
Ability to forcely assign drive letter to your device, or the other way to set up drive's letter list that will never be assigned by OS to hotplug devices. Also here will be implemented ability to remove empty card-reader drives.

Device icon auto detection
The program will detect device icon automatically.Of course you will have ability to change it manually

Portable version of the program
Ability to launch the program from your pen drive and run it on every computer you are using. The program won't save in settings in the registry.

Sorting devices in the stop menu
Ability to sort devices in the menu, ie to sort devices by name, by drive letter, or to make new devices stay at the top of the menu.

USB Power Management
Ability to see current device consumption voltage and required voltage for normal work.

Portable Version

Post by phatman »

Igor,

Would also vote for a portable version (would be useful at work where I DON'T have admin rights).

But to be honest ALL of the options you have listed would be extremely useful (probably the first time I have ever seen this on a software wish list).

Excellent little app by the way - will be purchasing.

Thanks

Hello!
Thank you for the description of why you need this feature. Understanding of this helps us to make a feature more convenient.

P.S.
Also, thank you for warm words!

Thank you for your vote! It would be great if you tell us "why you need this feature?" or "How you are going to use this feature". It'll help us to make the feature more handy and useful.

I had to go for "Portable version of the program".
If I've got the idea right it would enable me to take my memorystick in to university and safely remove it because in their infinite wisdom they have disabled us from using the standard way.

If it possible to make the program do this then it is a must-have feature.

I did almost vote for the "Stopped devices reactivation" though. That would be very handy too and stop me having to reach behind the computer to continually disconnect and reconnect the device to get it working again.

Both of those would be on my wishlist :)

It is still a brilliant program besides those :D

I voted for the Portable version

I run alot of software on my USB disk and I think it would be handy to have the same method of device removal on every system as the way USB Safely Remove works is more secure than the windows one

Hi Igor,
Yes, I would like to have MUCH=javascript:emoticon('')
Rolling Eyes more control then M$ EVER had over drive letter management!!

M$ OS software is ONE HUGE SCAM on this issue, so I somehow learned to use SUBST all the time in a batch like this:

@echo off
subst X: %CD%

Run from the external device after it was OK connected to the PC, it will always get the X: drive.

So I am voting for that and if you do not do it then there is always the alternative: Get the "Device Watchman Pro 2008 (S3)" at http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5655.html for $15. That is a good template for what I am looking for guys! javascript:emoticon('') Idea

Second vote goes to portable version. Everything these days must be portable it seems, so this too just has to be!

I WILL purchase your Software if you can fix this fairly soon. javascript:emoticon(':!:')

Hello!
We are now developing Drive Letter Management, and we are going to release the version including this feature until end of February.

May I ask you a question? Why don't you use and purchase "Device Watchman Pro 2008 (S3)"? Is there something not convinient for you?

Hi Igor,
This is great news!

Regarding Device Watchman - I just found it! I think especially the function of a "Tiny Windows Service to keep your drive assignments as you specified on any number of PCs" is VERY attractive because it would simplify using external USB storage a lot for the BIG crowd of average PC users. This is what I call drive management as opposed to what M$ NEVER did.

What I will do tomorrow (I am in Norway) is try out both Safely Remove and Device Watchman and also see if this will fit with a menu&launcher (of choice). There are MANY menu&launchers out there because they are the same as using a CD/DVD autoplay/autorun, but the main problem is still with the autorun/play not being activated for "security reasons".

I will purchase Safely Remove just because of the solution to the "cannot close down...." when disconnecting problem, but I also very much try to have as few tools as possible installed, so if I could use only Safely Remove together with some menu&launcher.....:?:

My worst nightmares came from installing some big bloated "security tool" - let's say MaxBlast v5 or MagicISO - only to find that some driver++ clashed with other software, so I had to copy back a complete Registry from before to get up and running again.

This is also why I VERY much favour putting ALL needed software onto the portable device and run it all from there when using portable gadgets - it's more secure.

Also you might take note, I will try out a new performance tuning tool called eBoostr - http://www.eboostr.com/. It must be free of ANY incompatibility issues with ALL other software!

I think that such a tool would give most benefit if the cache is placed onto a fast USB HDD. I will test both onto Thecus = 2,5" old IBM TravelStar 6GB, and onto a new Samstore 500GB SATAII.

I will report back on all this testing tomorrow! :!:

Accubuff, thank you very much for the response! We will examine Device Watchman and try to use its best features in USB Safely Remove. Especially ones mentioned by you.

Also we would appreciate your report about eBoostr, BTW you can start our forum's section "Portable Lifestyle" and write your report here. It's especially created for such things.

Yeah, the "Stopped devices reactivation" option would be at the top of my feature list.

So many times I've stopped a flash drive and then suddenly remembered something else I wanted to transfer, but had to unplug/replug the drive.

:)
